During that time, calls from adults aged more than doubled, increasing from 125 to 294, according to anonymized data gathered from the National Poison Data System. I believe they’re going to roll out their program this January, and that’s going to be a helpful guide for Colorado to see how this could look. It’s going to take some time — months to years — to understand how to develop some infrastructure. This is not designed to roll out like cannabis did, where you have recreational stores. This is about using these substances within a therapeutic environment. There’s also some anecdotal chatter that psilocybin can help treat other forms of substance misuse.

A few participants reported suicidal ideation and self-injurious behavior which, though “common in treatment-resistant depression studies,” according to the company, must be considered as research progresses. Despite being used by people in Central America (and possibly other regions) for centuries, psychedelic mushrooms largely existed outside of Western societies until the 1950s, when an American mycologist, R. Gordon Wasson, took a trip to Huautla de Jiménez in Oaxaca, Mexico. There, he participated in a ritual using psychedelic mushrooms—the experience was captured in a 1957 article in Life magazine titled “Seeking the Magic Mushroom,” which introduced the fungi to a broad audience.

In 2020 Oregon passed statewide legislation decriminalizing magic FRESH MUSHROOMS GROW KIT, and the state is building a framework for regulating legal therapeutic use—becoming the first jurisdiction in the world to do so. For now psilocybin remains illegal and strictly controlled at the national level in most countries, slowing research. But an international push to get the drug reclassified aims to lower barriers everywhere. Psilocybin mushrooms fall under a broader drug category known as psychedelic and dissociative drugs, which can temporarily alter a person’s mood, thoughts, and perceptions.

I think there has been some real harm from the way we legalized cannabis. Always establish a safety plan ahead of time and make sure someone in your group stays sober. P.S. None of these studies examined the social or recreational use of shrooms.
